FootballMania Redesign: A new face of passion and sustainability

SWOODA reimagined the retail concept for the brand Footballmania, the first specialized store for football equipment in Croatia, to capture the passion and emotion that drive football fans. For this concept team SWOODA drew inspiration from childhood playgrounds, legendary player memorabilia, and the excitement of modern football culture. Every design detail, from the center line to goal net motifs and integral green accents in the focal zones, is meant to immerse a visitor in the spirit of the game. The interior invokes urban playground nostalgia in combination with contemporary design, creating a space that is both dynamic and welcoming as a tribute to the game’s enduring energy and culture. The result is a fresh, modern, football-inspired retail space that celebrates heritage while leading with sustainable innovation, proving that design can be both emotionally charged and ecologically responsible. Sustainability plays a central role in the store’s fittings. Recycled steel, Polygood® plastic made from discarded refrigerators, and fabrics with recycled content are carefully selected to minimize environmental impact. Fixtures, crafted from powder-coated steel with partially recycled content, along with shelves and cash desks made from Polygood® recycled plastic boards, are designed to be flexible, modular and easily reused.

APPROACH:
The refreshed spatial framework preserves the recognizable DNA of the brand while introducing a modern and inviting atmosphere that encourages repeat visits. A recurring graphic motif, segments of a football field, creates dynamic patterns that unify the space. Upcycled elements from the previous store are also retained, extending their lifespans and giving old materials a new purpose. Even technical components such as LED lighting with replaceable plates are chosen to reduce waste and maximize longevity. Fully recyclable, low-VOC and Cradle to Cradle certified, all the carefully chosen materials ensure the store is as enduring and adaptable as the game it celebrates.
